Is Splinter Cell Conviction cake?
Yesterday I was sitting, eating a delicious sandwich, thinking about another brilliant plan to take over the world… and suddenly I installed Splinter Cell Conviction.
Somehow it happened that I installed it exactly a year after its release. Accidentally. No, seriously by accident. Quite seriously. I discovered that yesterday was a year since its release, when I looked at my old review and found the release date there. funny?
And the toy itself is what you need, but, alas, not everyone thinks so.
And this whole topic pushed me to a little reflection, which is presented below.
Indeed: there is not much left of the old Splinter Cells. A radically reworked concept, now closer to the adventures of Bourne’s friend, a simplification of the ingenious “light-dark” system, which has always pleased the eye and the feeling of one’s own secrecy, the total acceleration of Fisher and many, many other things have pushed people away from the game. However, everything is not so bad, as I was convinced of again yesterday.
Splinter Cell is alive.

Splinter Cell never thought of dying.
And the decision to make a fifth part of SC was justified.
Judge for yourself: the highest point in the series, “Chaos Theory,” was so brilliant that, perhaps, in the classical sense of stealth games ala SC, it was no longer possible to do anything better.
Why exactly I think “Theory” is the best in the series is probably not worth explaining.
Next was “Double Agent,” who took a small step back as a “shadow” stealth and stepped with the heel of his boot into the jungle of “social” stealth. “Agent” was a great game with its pros (and cons), but the beginning was given: Splinter Cell turned off the beaten track of pure-blooded “Fisher” stealth in three parts.
And here’s Conviction. Initially focused on the concept of another popular series of games from Ubisoft: Assassin’s Creed, but later still converted into the form that we are playing now.
“Persuasion” is first and foremost an action movie, no matter how much I would like to deny it.
With elements of stealth, since surviving in an open battle on maximum difficulty sometimes seems very difficult, and therefore you need to think with your head before getting into an open battle.
But still there is stealth there. Yes, and it’s not even discussed. (:
But the series needed a shake-up, because times are changing, and if earlier SC could only evoke an overwhelming feeling of coolness of what was happening in the soul, now the public may certainly find waiting for three minutes in a dark corner boring, and the game will go to the trash can. Virtual and real.
Therefore, the ideal option was found. This is the same action movie with stealth elements. Naturally, the stealth capabilities had to be simplified so as not to outweigh the shooter, but this is a reasonable price for balance.
Yes, there is a balance here. 😀
Moreover: Conviction is a rather rare game, since the player chooses the path through it himself. Whether to sneak past the guards unnoticed, whether to shoot them or neutralize them unnoticed – that is the choice, and it is in most game situations. Not in all cases – in some places the use of violence is necessary, since there is no other choice, and in others open combat is not permissible, but this is not the rule, which is good news.
And we gradually come to the topic of my annual butthurt: SC:C can be played like the old games in the series. You can go through without shooting ala Gears of War, you can go through without silent genocide of enemies. But it is possible and it is not possible, yes. And this variability is why the fifth part is good.
Although, as a purebred action movie, the game looks surprisingly cheerful and high-quality.
And therefore, I can’t say that SC:C is a disgrace to the series, a completely different game with a familiar character, etc.
In my opinion, the new… well, more precisely, the last… part of Fischer’s adventures has the right to exist and the players love it.
There is something to love.
And true fans of old-school Fisher also have something to love.
And yes, in order not to be too unfounded, I’m posting my recording of the passage of Kobin’s mansion. Passed without a single alarm and unnecessary casualties. The beginning of the game is conducive to such a passage. In the end, of course, it becomes more and more difficult to avoid worries and especially victims, but this is all real, and if necessary, this can be proven in video format. (:
